For those interested in learning more about Haitian history and foreign involvement in Haitian affairs, check out The Uses of Haiti by Paul Farmer.

For an analysis of the removal of Jean-Bertrand Aristide from power in 2004, check out this link from the London Review of Books:

For those that would like to do something about the horrible living standards that reign in Haiti, consider donating to Partners in Health. Partners In Health (PIH) was founded in 1987 with the primary goal of supporting ongoing activities in Central Haiti; these activities included the opening of a clinic and a training program for community-health workers in Central Haiti. The organization now runs clinics in several places all over the globe, from Rwanda to Russia. For more information, visit www.pih.org.
